What is Ghana Cargo Tracking Note?

A CTN must be made up in the port of stacking and is required for all shipments to Ghana, incorporating transshipments and with a BL date from 1 July 2018. The shipper is in charge of the approval of the CTN and must guarantee that the CTN number is referenced effectively on the Bill of Lading. Shipments that are not secured by a substantial CTN number won’t be traditions cleared in Ghana and fines may apply. Don’t forget that it is mandatory for all ports in Ghana. Recently GRA Ghana CTN News and Updates

The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) wishes to remind all companies which were listed in the Cargo Tracing Notes (CTN) policy that compliance is mandatory.

With effect from 7th April, 2020 failure to comply with the requirement upon arrival of the Cargo shall attract a pecuniary penalty under the Customs Law.  This will be strictly enforced without exception.

All enquiries on the CTN may be directed to our Customs Technical Service Bureau on 0242435663.

All companies concerned are hereby advised to comply with the implementation requirements to avoid any sanctions.


It has come to the attention of the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) that some companies listed to comply with the CTN implementation have for some time now failed to comply with the directive.

The Commissioner-General wishes to remind all such companies that the CTN Policy is mandatory and that failure to comply with the directive will soon lead to inconveniences upon the arrival of Cargo as well as attract punitive measures under Customs law.
